There are all types of services out there that offer “free” credit reports, but consumers have to be very careful. Although these services will provide a “free” credit report, they may also sign you up for additional services that are not free.
The place to find your truly free credit report is https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action. At this link you simply fill out an online form where you can request a report from one or all 3 of the credit reporting bureaus. Since consumer fraud and identity theft can happen quickly, we recommend only checking one of the credit bureaus at one time, and then checking again in 4 months with a different, since all will provide very similar information. If you are participating in “Keeping Credit in Check” program we will not only remind you when to check your credit, but which bureau you need to request the information from.
